I love dogs and as it turns out, they sense that when I enter a room. Maybe it’s my calm-assertive energy, maybe it’s because I’m generally soft spoken, or maybe its because I really respect dogs. I understand the way THEY think, what THEY need, and how this helps them return to their natural balanced state.

Years before I began my career as a dog trainer, I thought obedience training was mostly for the benefit of humans. A way to make our lives more convenient, efficient and orderly.

Truth is, it’s great for dogs and they live peaceful, happier more balanced lives when we become their leaders. Dogs are happiest when they have a job to do, understand their limitations, and have structure in their lives. This is how they live in the wild, it’s their instinctual, natural way. There’s only two roles in the dog world, the follower role, and the pack leader.

What I’ve seen and experienced  with hyperactive, fearful, aggressive, nervous, high strung dogs is that these unbalanced mental states, and many others such as obsessions, fade away when dogs can be returned to their natural calm-submissive follower role state.

More often than not, what we see as bad behavior is a dog filling the leadership void abandoned by his owner. And dogs are ill-equip to lead us in a human world… and they sense this. The result? Dogs stress out and exhibit dominant-assertive  behaviors.

Dogs do not think like humans, act like humans, or see the human world around them like humans. They need and deserve our help and protection.

The good news is we, together, have the capability to change all this and reverse your dog’s bad behaviors. The most important part of dog training is rebuilding the healthy relationships between dogs and humans. And once our lines of communication are clearly established, dogs can relax and enjoy a peaceful, happier life with you and your whole family.
